about

In 1994, video games stepped out of their 16-bit comfort zone and plunged into the 32-bit era. Newcomer Sony and Veteran SEGA went into direct battle to compete for video game fans minds and allowances. It was an absolutely amazing age to be a young gamer. Both CD base machines would bring arcade quality entertainment to your homes, amazing 3D graphics and red book audio wich meant that most often then not, we were getting a video game and it's OST for the price of one!

Sony released the Playstation on December 3, 1994. The video game industry was never the same ever since. Even two decades later, the name "Playstation" itself has become one with video games. The brand as such power in my home country of Portugal that most people do not even consider other brands. Having been born of a fallout with Nintendo, the original PSX as we called it back in those days literally brought Namco's arcades to your living rooms. My first games for the system were "Ridge Racer", "Tekken" and "Air Combat". They remain an amazing feat and caused quite an impression on my young, 8-bit and 16-bit centric gaming self. Truly those where some great days to be a gamer, with pretty much every developer under the sun supporting the console in the next few years, landing many impressive titles from developers such as Squaresoft, Capcom, Konami, Psygnosis, Taito... way to many companies, way too many memories and way, way too many games!

To celebrate the Playstation's 20th birthday, I have take music from 20 of my favourite video game memories of those years and turned them into chiptune remixes / covers. Hope you enjoy and that this brings you some great memories!
