about

Ah, the cliché comes to the second half! To celebrate the 20 years of 'Shiryu Music' I have released this final eight disc 'best of' selection of tracks made between 2008 and 2020. The solo years if you will!

It is funny that by the beginning of 2008 I believed my music producing hobby (career?) was coming to an end mostly because I was out of college and starting my professional life yet the exact opposite happened. I began buying Computer Music magazine every single month (and kept doing so up to 2019!), transitioned from eJay software to Magix Music Maker and made two tribute LP albums (dare I say "essential classics"?) during the 2008 Summer vacation: "The

Wipeout Legacy" and "Return ][ Arrakis". I had so much fun and both got such incredible reception that I just kept on going. Buying new versions, new loops and samples, new issues of Computer Music, etc, etc... and here we are now, over a decade later still at it!

Sadly I skipped on regular human being behaviour and as such unlike all my friends I forgot to get married , have children and all those thing we do as adults. This is why this second decade of Shiryu Music was a very lonely experience with but a single collaboration with a fine bunch of folks to release "The Wipeout Generation". Everything else was all me, alone by the computer, mix and mashing loops and voice samples. Looking at it all it still amazes me I did so much with so little.

Fast forward to present day 2020 and the world changed rather abruptly. This not so little compilation was meant to be released earlier this year but unprecedented circumstances made everyone's lives harder. The ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic has brought a new world to our doorsteps, one we are still all learning to deal with and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. We had a 45 day State of Emergency situation in Portugal and at the time of releasing this album we are in the middle of a State of Calamity. Big scary names that do not translate on how well we dealt with this whole affair so far.

Sadly due to my current IT profession I was unable to remain in quarantine, having been "volunteered" to be at the office every single day to ensure that everyone else worked remotely at home smoothly. I am still unsure of the price to pay for such psychological demanding task will have on my life but at least I have now accomplished something: "DecadeZ Volume 2: ~All Alone In The Night~" is here, released and available for all of you out there.

Eight discs with ten tracks per disc. These were not easy to select, taking just a couple of tracks from each of the albums I released in this past decade so I apologise if you don't find one of your favourites in this list. I hope I have accomplished the same objective as last year's "DecadeZ - Volume I: ~The Genesis of Dreams~": The definitive compilation that will allow anyone to sample my life work, what I leave behind, the years I invested into this insane hobby, the fun I had, the moments of my life each of these tracks represent. One heck of a ride!

I dedicate this album to everyone out there diligently doing their work despite lockdowns and quarantines to ensure a better future for everyone else. From doctors, nurses, security staff, mail workers, delivery workers, super market re-stockers and cashiers, caretakers, drivers, law enforcement, IT personnel and so many millions out there working tirelessly under unbearable work conditions to ensure that people (NOT the economy) have their basic needs attended to during this nightmarish period of our existence.

I stand now at a huge crossroad regarding on what to do with my life onwards. I don't know the future, but I leave you with my past. I hope you enjoy it.

Be smart, be safe, be seeing you around. o7
